FCUK brings home the best of BRITISH for Autumn Winter 07

French Connection UK (FCUK) introduces its Autumn/Winter 07 collection taking a retro perspective on design with bold prints, a gem stone palette and enough embellishment to create a coveted dressing up box for women. It’s a tale of two stories where sequin and satin disco dresses combine with oversized flowing knitwear and masculine tailoring. FCUK has upped the style anti for suave fashion connoisseurs and young playboys alike for Autumn/Winter 07. Highly influenced by heritage and traditional outdoor pursuits, home-grown style resonates in a menswear collection that captures the mood of winter.

Key looks

Shape sets the scene in this dramatic collection with stylish outerwear featuring oversized gathered collars and exaggerated proportions keeping pretty smock dresses and glitter ball skirts under lock and key. Glamour girl coats swing with bell sleeves and a tulip silhouette or empire line in herring wool with bracelet sleeves and covered buttons. A salute to formal structures adds a change to the outerwear line up with hooded drawstring parkas with kimono sleeves and belted, double-breasted military coats with epaulette detailing.

The dress is here to impress. Simple, unstructured smock dresses with neckline ruching and tulip sleeves give the collection a luxurious late 70’s feel, while low waist tie belted styles flow effortlessly to define the ladylike form. Beading, sequins and artist prints customise delectable designs in jersey, seductive silk and soft satin. Oversized embellished shift dresses nod to the 60’s while multi colour sequins in prince purple create an 80’s dance fever vibe. Wrap it up in a jersey dress with gold square sequin details on collar and cuff all tied up with bow. Wear dresses with opaque tights or layer over block jersey polo necks.

Dresses and knitwear combine creating exquisite detailing and elegant lines. The legendary ‘Carly Knits’ dress is transformed for the new season with plunging necklines, puff shoulders and bracelet sleeves. Contrast colour stripe knit dresses add detail in complimenting hues of black and fig. All are floaty and fun with wide sleeves and a kick to the hem.

Knitwear flows through to oversize cable knit outerwear, batwing jumpers and stripe tie-waist polo necks. Cardigans range from classic school attire with low pockets, chunky cable knit cosies to refined structured styles with oversized buttons, puff shoulders and cute pockets.

Masculine tailoring continues with exaggerated wide leg tailored trousers in low rise or high waisted shape, team with a ‘Sergeant Pepper’ inspired double-breasted fitted blazer. Shirts have been appraised and worked into boyfriend-oversized styles, dress shirts and artist smock cut. Single-breasted blazers refine the silhouette worn with classic low rise, straight leg front pleat trousers. Skirts speak volumes with full tulip shapes in plum twill or fancy floral prints.

Denim is transformed with new hardware from black to gunmetal grey and retro 50’s labelling. The range fulfils every silhouette for the season from ultra skinny to low-rise slouch, choose from vintage to antique wash.

The great outdoors heralds the return of the ‘Game Keepers’ jacket. Cut from supple washed leather with traditional bellows pockets and ‘FC’ tartan lining, a rugged yet wearable alternative to the classic Trench coat has emerged. Rustic knitwear is injected into the collection through chunky waffle stitched cardigans and bold alpine patterns on faux shearling-lined jackets while lumberjack shirts make a come back re-enforcing this manly ‘at-one-with-the-elements’ look. Colours are autumnal in hues of khaki, burgundy and grey with hints of camel and pastel yellow adding flashes of warmth to this all-terrain huntsman look.

Rugged huntsman sits along-side refined-gent; more polished in appearance, the attention to detail is of the utmost importance. Retaining the guise of gentrified chic, it’s about dressing ‘proper and correct’. Brushed cotton tweed jackets are updated with contrast linings and sports styling, putting a youthful spin on a wardrobe staple while waxed cotton pea coats sit well along-side formal tapered trousers featuring pin-tuck seams which achieve an unexpectedly smart mod like finish. This distinguished trend embraces luxury, resonating in soft cashmere mix sweaters with subtle stitch detail and slinky silk-like tees. Borrowing elements from traditional formalwear shirts are crisp with shrunken cuff and collars. Cut to a distinctively lean silhouette, geometric patterns and unique ‘FC’ branding are cleverly used to create all over patterns. Granddad cardigans and skinny check ties complete this look adding the finishing touches to an overtly British collection.

Accessories offer a mixture of traditional ‘man bags’ ranging from oversize holdalls bearing multi pocket compartments to strap detail satchels. Knitted scarfs are given an emphasis with block checks and bold stripes in a washed colour palette of grey, purple and deep blue while classic ‘Prince of Wales’ check ‘fisherman’ hats and smart belts complete the collection. Worn leather, waxed cotton and techno nylon fabrics are used throughout encompassing the feel of the main clothing range.
